Girls Rock! Courage Fall Service Day

Baking Doggie Treats at the CPC

On November 12, 2011 the Girls Rock! girls, mentors and staff served as volunteers at the Seattle Animal Shelter for our Courage Project Service Day!  The Courage Project Service Daykicked off with each girl baking batches of homemade doggie treats at the CPC, which were donated to the shelter upon arrival, followed by a guided tour by of the shelter facilities, including the behind the scenes look at the operations of an animal shelter lead by Kara Main-Hester, Manager of Volunteer Programming and Fundraising.

The girls’ and mentors’ roles consisted of providing socialization (hands-on, human contact, play-time) of dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, bunnies, and other critters, assisted shelter staff with in-house training and behavioral assessments of dogs through positive reinforcement, shadowing volunteers through the adoption processes and inner workings of matchmaking between pet and potential adoption families.
